The Stuart Buchanan Memorial Challenge

Stuart Buchanan a lifelong member of RTYC passed away in late 2017. Stuart’s sailing career was long and varied in both boat types and sailing location but his passion was always for catamaran sailing. From his self-built Unicorn in his teens to his Hurricane in his later years Stuart always liked to go fast across the water.
This quest for speed created a record for racing around the horseshoe buoy. Stuart and his sailing partner Hamish covered the course in a time of twenty-four minutes. Stuart was confident that this time would never be beaten and offered a bottle of whisky to anyone who could better that time in an official race.
The time still and in memory of Stuart, RTYC will as “The Stuart Buchanan Memorial Challenge” present a bottle of whisky to anyone recording an elapsed time of under twenty-four minutes in a Horseshoe Buoy race.
